Primary School Capital Grant Scheme
Our aim is to promote healthy lifestyles by providing access to outdoor facilities and equipment which encourage physical activity and play.

What will we fund: We will consider applications towards new playgrounds or enhancements to existing ones, new or replacement play equipment and creation of areas suitable for forest schools or similar. Examples of previously funded projects are shown below.
Eligibility: Applications will be considered from any state primary or nursery school on the Bristol census. Priority will be given to schools which have not received any direct funding from the Foundation within the last five years and who can demonstrate the greatest need.

What you will need for your application: You will need to provide details about pupil numbers, what you are requesting the grant for, how much it will cost and how it will benefit your pupils. You will also need to confirm how quickly you could proceed if successful. Preference will be given to applications which include quotations, supporting photos which demonstrate the need, and a contribution, however small, from the school, PTA or other organisation.

Deadline: Applications will only be accepted using the relevant online application form.
The deadline for submissions is 6pm on Tuesday 22nd April

We will notify successful applicants week commencing 12th May.

Hartcliffe Nursery School
The Foundation provided funding for a creative play resource called Block Play. Block Play consists of various different sizes and shapes of blocks that are designed to help children develop their hand-eye coordination, building skills, communication and problem solving skills as well as physical strength.

Whitehall Primary
The funding from John James Foundation went towards the costs of developing a space of waste land at the back of Whitehall Primary School. The children called this space ‘The wilderness’.

The site development included installing a shelter so the children could access the site in all weathers, a log circle where the children regularly gather for fire making and cooking skills, and a shed and all the resources and tools needed to maintain the site.

Ilminster Avenue e-act Academy
The school's playing field had become unsafe and unusable. The Foundation awarded a grant to resurface and reseed the playing fields making them operational once again, so that outdoor sports and other activities can resume.

Headley Park Primary
The Foundation provided funding for the Key Stage 1 outdoor play area to improve the outdoor education and enrichment spaces for it's younger pupils. The outdoor play area now offers the children a vibrant and inspiring place to play and learn outside, as well as being safe and inviting curious exploration.
