Joan is the eldest daughter of John James, and worked with her Father all her working life. She is therefore in tune with John’s ways of thinking and was the natural person for him to select to be Chairman of the Foundation after his death.
Joan is married and has lived the greater part of her life in Bristol. She has a son and daughter and four grandchildren and has, in the past, been involved personally with other charitable organisations in Bristol. In her leisure time Joan loves travelling, bridge and the theatre.
David Johnson MA
David is a grandson of John James and son of the Foundation’s Chairman, Joan Johnson. David was born and went to school in Bristol before studying for a degree in Computer Science in Staffordshire. After a number of years travelling and working abroad David moved into a Buddhist Community in South Wales where he lived and worked for six years, including becoming a trustee of the Centre. Following this, David designed and lived in an award winning ecological house in South Wales. During this time he completed a Masters Degree in Ecopsychology. David is now involved with the Transition Initiative, helping communities design their future through building resilience to rising oil prices, economic instability and cutting their carbon footprint, and is a former board member of Transition US.
Liz Chambers is the daughter of Joan Johnson, Chairman, and granddaughter of John James. Liz was educated in Bristol and then studied Maths at Birmingham University. She qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Ernst & Young in London in 1992 and then worked in Hong Kong and Australia. She subsequently returned to E&Y London to work in Corporate Tax and she qualified as Chartered Tax Adviser in May 1996. Following her marriage to Andrew later that year, they moved to Australia where Liz worked as an accountant at The Futures Foundation, a non-profit making organisation based in Sydney, finally returning to London in 1999. Her main focus is bringing up her four children, but she recently worked part-time with a children’s charity involved in the healthcare industry.
John Evans MSST, MSF, MAB Phys, MCSP
John was appointed a Trustee in 1996. He was born in Clifton and apart from 3 years absence all of his life has been spent living and working in the Bristol and North Somerset areas. Since taking early retirement from a major clearing Bank in 1995 following 34 years service John has retrained and is now a Chartered Physiotherapist. Currently lives and practices in Nailsea.
Andrew Jardine, who lives in Clifton, was born and educated in Bristol and now runs a number of business interests from an office in Redland. He has been a trustee since 2003. Andrew is a Chartered Accountant, Chartered Management Accountant and has an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management. His family has a strong medical background being the son of a former Bristol Ophthalmic Surgeon and State Registered Nurse and with a brother and sister both employed in the health sector in Bristol. He has four nieces and four nephews who are, or have been, educated at Bristol schools. His interests include sailing, walking and the theatre.
Andrew Webley B.Sc, MRICS
Andrew Webley qualified as a chartered surveyor in 1985, and having worked for a large firm of international property consultants, he now is a director of a number of private property companies, some of which specialise in developing community property schemes such as Medical Centres and Children’s Nurseries. These are often related to regeneration projects. He lives in Greenwich in London. Away from work he enjoys travelling.
JOHN MICHAEL HAWORTH
John Michael Haworth B.Sc., M.B.B.S., FRCR.
John Haworth was born in Blackburn Lancashire. He trained as a doctor at Guy’s Hospital Medical School London. He moved to Bristol in 1976. He recently retired as a Consultant Radiologist at Southmead Hospital, now part of North Bristol NHS Trust. He held this position from 1982 and during this time he also held several management positions for the Trust including being Head of Specialty for Radiology. John is married to Judy and they have six children. His hobbies include golf, music, reading and crosswords. John became a Trustee of the John James Bristol Foundation in November 2005, and was appointed Vice-Chairman in August 2013.
PETER GOODWINPeter read law at Worcester College, Oxford and joined the City firm of Freshfields on qualifying as a solicitor. John James was a client of the firm and Peter, then a partner, began acting for him. Peter moved to the Westminster firm of Bircham Dyson Bell in 1990 and continued to act for John James until his death. Peter retired in May 2011 but remains a Trustee of several trusts, including three charitable trusts.
Away from the office, Peter's interests centre on the arts and sport.
Nicola read medicine at Edinburgh University. She moved to Bristol in 2005 when she started working as a Consultant Rheumatologist at North Bristol NHS Trust. She works under her maiden name of Dr Nicola Minaur. She is married with two children and away from work enjoys cycling and tennis. She became a Trustee of the John James Bristol Foundation in May 2017.
